Three hour drive from Durham, I'm driving down (if water levels are good to paddle) Monday morning and staying overnight to drive back on the 2nd. I will post this trip as a go/no-go looking at levels the night before.
Celebrate the peak bloom of the rare rocky shoals spider lilies! Landsford Canal State Park invites you to experience these breathtakingly beautiful flowers that only bloom for a very short, but predictable, window of time.
The Catawba River is home to the largest known stand of the rocky shoals spider lily, a flower species found predominantly in the Southeast. Peak bloom season for the rocky shoals spider lily is during May and June.
Put-In : ADMISSION: $6 for adults, $3.75 for SC Seniors (65 & older)
Landsford Canal Upper access Coordinates: 34.79176, -80.88081 On Park Drive (690), off Landsford Road (327) , near hiking trail head. River Right Be ready to shuttle at at 10:30am.
PADDLE DESCRIPTION: Paddle length: approx 6 miles of Catawba River
PADDLE DIFFICULTY: this will be an Easy/Moderate river paddle (depending on water level). Easy on pace/moderate on distance with class one rapids,
Water level might result in scraping and getting out of boat in shallows
GEAR: PFD, Whistle, Water, lunch, wear, appropriate clothing for the weather, sunscreen, hat
