Annual SK picnic/potluck /paddle/games at Beaver Dam/Falls Lake! !
Details
Join us for a morning of paddle games, swimming, potluck picnic, and hopefully a water fight! It’s always a nice leisurely time; meet new paddlers, chat, catch up, play, eat. Rather than an organized paddle, we’re planning some paddle games at about 10am to start our day! So arrive early to get in on the fun! Shorter boats encouraged to increase the steering challenge and level the paddling field! And BESIDES your kayak, bring your favorite inflatable toy (inner tubes, pool noodles, etc) to hand-paddle yourself into infamy and silly greatness!! we checked out the area yesterday (july 1), and while water levels at Falls Lake are low, we should be fine if we don’t lose much more water to the heat and drought.
If we get rained out, we’ll try again the following day, Sunday 26th, so put rain date on your calendar too!
Please leave dogs at home! and please announce in comments section if bringing anyone under 18. This is great event for kids of all ages as long as they can swim, wear a PFD and participate!
The entrance to beaver dam is a few miles NORTH of the boat launch on Creedmore, on the right (if heading north) and just across from entrance to Sandling beach. Sometimes people don't go to the right launch!
Heading down the park entry road about a mile or so, there is a small sign on the right near the ground for "DUCK COVE" that points the way to where we will be meeting. there is a small parking area at the end of loop, and we're down near picnic tables at lakeside. there’s more parking up the hill a tad near the restrooms. don’t park on the grassy areas at the loop or risk the ire of the rangers! we are launching from the cove, NOT from the boat ramp/beach area. if you’ve reached the boat ramps/beach, you’ve driven past duck cove.

Note there is a $10/car park entry fee ($5 for seniors or military service, or get an annual jordan/falls lake pass). Carpool if you can to save $ and reduce parking.
**\ *if we run out of parking at the cove, you can park at boat ramp down the road at the beach area, launch there, and have a short paddle heading right around the swim area, down the first cove to meet us. ***
POTLUCK - Please post in the comment section what you are bringing to share. Check for duplication. Bring your own water bottles please but we'll have water canisters to refill them. We’ll have some paper plates and plastic utensils, but you can bring your own reusable plates, cups, utensils, etc. to cut down on paper/plastic waste! there are some grills there.
don't forget to bring a chair! and water cannons and pistols! outdoor games? or something for a fun water game. it’s a fairly shallow cove that is great for swimming, water fights. i love to soak in the lake on a pool noodle when the day gets hot.
a towel and bug spray are also good ideas.
we could use a couple of big folding tables, if someone could bring and post that as well. THANKS!!
There are restrooms a short walk away.
as always, wearing a pfd is absolutely required, as well as the ability to swim to shore if necessary.
bring some cash? our club relies on enough people to voluntarily contribute $5+ per year to cover costs. look for a contribution jar, and don’t forget to write your name on the notepad (the name you registered with)! you can also use venmo or paypal.
remember that you paddle at your own risk. simply kayaking is just a bunch of nice people in kayaks, and can’t ever be responsible for your safety or convenience.
more safe fun, less drama!
