Let's enjoy a beautiful sunset and full moon rise at Jordan Lake Wednesday evening.

please check back here a couple of hours before event time - unfortunately summer evening rains are hard to predict!

please arrive early and be ready to leave shore by 730. we might wait an extra 5, but it sucks to keep your friends waiting. if you do arrive late, check the discussion area for this event for any guidance on where we went.

we might run a different route than our usual trip to the island, depending on water levels. but might well find a good spot for a swim, so wear your suit and bring towel and optional floatie such as a pool noodle, if you want to swim. water temp last tuesday evening was wonderful!

we probably won’t see the moon until 10 or 15 minutes later, after it clears the tree line, so it should be pretty dark by then.

if you bring toys like water cannons, do check with people if they’re into it before you shoot! lighted balls or frisbees are also fun

but a small white light on your boat or pfd is required by law, as well as a waterproof whistle for emergency signaling. We actually prefer red lights, because they don’t disturb your night vision. EL boat wires are also great!
please check your batteries before you head to the lake!

Be prepared to paddle 4 to 5 miles. We will certainly find a shoreline to stretch legs or have a nature break. As usual, inflatable kayaks and SUPs are not invited on Simply Kayaking events. Please leave your yappy chihuahua and other space aliens at home.

Bug spray might be a good idea!

ABSOLUTELY REQUIRED:

  • wearing your PFD at all times
  • bringing a waterproof whistle for signaling, per state law
  • for nighttime paddles, state law requires you to have at least one light on your kayak. We strongly prefer that it is not just a white light, as they are too bright to enjoy the dark. I strongly suggest a boat light that is red, such as a flashlight that can be set to red color, or wrapped with red plastic if you need help with picking the best kayak light, ask questions in the comments section for this event
