Hike in Valles Caldera National Preserve

Details
The Valles Caldera National Preserve is located just north of Jemez Springs on Hwy 4. It's an ancient volcanic caldera with wide open spaces and other areas covered by forests. We will be hiking just west and north of the Main Park Office, just past the visitors center. Driving distance of about 75 miles one way. All on pavement except for last 3 miles which is good gravel roads. Total hiking distance will be about 10 miles, but you could turn around most anytime if you got tired. Total elevation gain of about 750 feet, maybe a little more. NO DOGS or WHINERS, leave your DRAMA at home. I would rate this as a MODERATE hike. We'll park at the Preserve Office and follow road number VC02 to it's intersection with VC0201 and take it up and northwest for as far as we can. Might make a loop out of it by coming back by the old Paddock Building. Be prepared to reimburse your drivers at the rate of $.10 per mile round trip or about $15 for the day.
