The Astialakwa Ruins are the site of one of the battles of the Pueblo Revolt in 1694. It sits atop of Guadalupe Mesa just south of Jemez Springs and is accessed by a very steep climb up the mesa sides. My good buddy Fred G. told me about this hike a few years ago and on 22 May 2021 me and about 9 other hikers visited the site. The site is of early Jemez pueblo origin. Driving distance one way is about 40 miles, all on pavement. Total hiking distance to site is about 5 miles round trip. Elevation gain of over 900 feet. NO DOGS or WHINERS. Drama kings and queens, please stay home. I would rate this hike as STRENOUS due to elevation, steepness, and exposure. There is a trail, and its a good one, but it will test you! We do have to cross the Jemez River both out and back. I will bring some sort of water shoes we can share, or you can bring your own. We will leave the parking lot at prescisely 8AM. Get there early and make arrangements for a ride. If any of my westside FRIENDS, and I don't have many, want to go, we can stop at Home Depot on Hwy 550 and coordinate a ride from there, if we have room. For more information, ask your questions below and I'll answer below. Be prepared to reimburse your drivers at the rate of $.10 per mile round trip or about $10 for the day.
