FALL CAMPING IN THE JEMEZ MOUNTAINS

Bring those chairs, hammocks, & even mountain bikes, to pedal or hike the forest back roads or just relax at 8,835' elevation. Fenton Lake St.Park is just down hwy 126 a ways if you want to paddle your kayak. The CG has some nice mountain and valley views below. Sorry, no room for RVs or trailers. This is a flat top on the mountain once used for logging, with plenty of shade. I call this Bear Camp Ground for the 8' x 12' granite rock shaped like the Santa Fe Logo,no kiddin. This is dispersed camping at its best. On Sat. night Frank will be serving a 4 course gratis Cowboy Dutch oven meal to 6 lucky attendees who RSVP. Menus posted later. They will be sleeping on a happy tummy. San Antonio Hot Springs is another option a few miles away. We will likely both be present on Thursday early to hopefully plant the flag. Some may want to join us then. Campfire nightly, so bring some wood. You can camp any of the nights. Something special might be on tap for the Sat. night campfire. Don't forget all your camping junk. Amanda's country store at the intersection of hwy 4 & 126 in La Cueva for last minute items. On Sunday, those interested, can follow me to Guadeloupe Waterfalls on the way home, which have deep pools below them for a cool clean-up and who knows, maybe a photo or two. Hike to falls is only 1/4 mi. from the road. AND/OR stop at the old & picturesque Los Ojos Bar in Jemez Springs for a killer hamburger. A 90 minute drive from ABQ. Well behaved dogs on leash...OK.
