Hike in San Pedro Parks
Details
We'll hike from the Rio Galina Trailhead and get as far into the San Pedro Parks Wilderness as we can. I'm hoping to make it all the way to the top of the mesa at about 10,000 feet. Driving distance one way of about 100 miles. All on pavement except for the last 8 miles or so which starts out on pretty good gravel and then turns into a 4x4 dirt two track. Only 4x4 vehicles will maybe make it the last mile or so. Hiking distance of around 10 miles total. Elevation gain of about 1500 feet. NO DOGS or WHINERS. I would rate this event as STRENOUS due to elevation and possibly snow at the higher elevations. Be prepared for a long day of hiking in maybe New Mexico's best scenery. Plenty of water and snacks. For more information, ask your questions below and I'll answer below. We will leave Target at 8AM, so don't be late. The last time I did this hike was in April of 2025 and the road going in was in pretty bad shape, which is the reason for the 4x4 vehicle requirement. Be prepared to reimburse your drivers at the rate of $.10 per mile round trip or about $20 for the day. I'll most likely stop at Bruno's in Cuba on the way home.
