Please bring your own trash bags, water and gloves. We will spread out along the river bank to pick up litter, so please wear shoes and socks that give you good traction and protect your legs from weeds.

This event is weather dependent, if there's a thunderstorm, it might be cancelled so check this page before leaving for the event. Please note that you can NOT park in the parking lot by the boathouse, please use SpotHero if you need to drive. The site is about 3 blocks from the North Ave. Red line station and within a block of several bus routes.

We will meet at the Weed Street boathouse, pick up litter for about two hours, then go to Whole Foods where you can buy food and beverages.

Amazing volunteers come together every year since 1992 to give the Chicago and Calumet Rivers a good spring cleaning on Chicago River Day, part of our effort to create a [Litter Free Chicago-Calumet river system](https://www.chicagoriver.org/programs/on-the-ground-projects/litter-free-life). The river system provides critical habitat for all sorts of animals from migratory birds to beavers, mink, turtles and over 75 species of fish. It's health is rebounding but litter remains a stubborn problem. Have fun, get inspired by fellow volunteers, and make a positive impact on the health of the river cleaning the watershed from Lake County to the Calumet.
