Join us for a tour with ghosts galore! We'll explore a creepy old cemetery, learn what lurks beneath Glenview Mansion, then picnic with "spirits" of a different kind. ;) READ MORE below...

KEY DETAILS (please read):

OVERVIEW
IMPORTANT NOTE: This is not a typical singles mixer/meat-market event. It's a walking tour for people who are interested in local history and folklore. If that sounds like a snoozer, it probably is. We'll see you at the next happy hour. Thanks.

You're invited to Rockville, MD for the 2nd installment in PapaDuck's annual series of haunted history hikes. We'll begin with introductions, then take a short waddle to (and peer over) the dizzying edge of "Monkey's Cliff," with the option to descend down to two small but scenic waterfalls. Next we'll explore the 300-year-old Rockville Cemetery and meet its most famous (and infamous) residents. Lastly, we'll wander over to Civic Center Park and learn about Betsy (a pampered only child who still plays in her life-size "doll house" decades after her tragic suicide), and marvel at stately Glenview Mansion, whose basement conceals a supernatural terror that even a trained police K-9 dog refused to confront.

Whew! Assuming we survive all that, we'll gather afterward and share personal ghost stories during an optional picnic. Bring a camp chair; PapaDuck (aka Carl) will provide free Halloween-themed snacks, sweets, and hauntingly delicious adult beverages... :)

RSVPs
This event is cross-posted. Please sign up with only one meetup group. Thank you.

THE MEETING POINT
We'll begin our adventure in front of Rockville's Croydon Creek Nature Center. The parking lot holds about 20 cars and might fill. Overflow parking is available at the tennis courts just down the road. The nature center will be CLOSED when we begin our walk, so restrooms will NOT be available until we return around 1 pm.

THE WALK
This is a short, easy, relaxed walking tour with numerous interpretive stops. Our loop route will cover about 1.5 miles with minimal elevation gain. Average pace will be a casual 2.5 mph or less. The terrain is a mix of paved and natural surfaces; sneakers should be fine. Well-behaved dogs who keep their owners on a short (6-foot) leash are welcome. Halloween-themed attire is optional but wholeheartedly encouraged. Let's have some ghostly fun! :)

THE PICNIC
Once our walking tour is complete, we'll convene for an optional picnic on the grounds of the nature center. PapaDuck will supply themed snacks, sweets, seasonal spirits, and wine. Feel free to bring your own individual lunch/beverage. Please also BRING A PORTABLE CHAIR; picnic tables are very limited.

Thanks for your attention. We look forward to seeing you Sunday! :)
