About us
I started Sisterhood about 14 years ago because I wanted real connection — women who were feeling a bit isolated, a bit lonely, and ready for genuine friendship. With no family in Canberra and a son who’s now independent, I finally had space for fun, laughter, and new experiences.
Sisterhood isn’t your typical Meetup — and I make no apologies for that.
We’re here to build friendships that feel like family, and we value diversity in culture, age, and gender.
We ask our Sisters to commit to at least one event a month. If that’s tricky, no stress — as long as you’re happy to pay the annual membership and come when you can, you’re still welcome. Just know the deeper connections tend to grow with the women who show up regularly.
Our group is a gorgeous mix of women from all walks of life — married, single, mums, child‑free, students, professionals, spiritual, religious, atheist, all shapes and sizes, with both hidden and visible disabilities. Ages range from our 20s to our 60s.
Straight, transgender, gay, gender‑fluid, or identifying as a woman — we embrace and celebrate all women.
Kindness, curiosity, and a willingness to have fun are what matter here.
Fees (keeping it real):
We all chip in to cover the annual membership — it’s literally the cost of two coffees a year.
There’s a one‑off $5 joining fee each time you leave and come back.
If someone leaves when a membership fee is due and rejoins later, the re‑entry fee is $15.
If the yearly membership isn’t paid, you’ll simply be removed — no drama, no judgement. And if you want to rejoin later, you’ll be welcomed back.
If you’re craving connection, laughter, support, and a group of women who genuinely show up for each other, then welcome — you’ve found your people.
