1:00 - 3:00 PM - You're Not Going to Believe What I Saw Today - Sheryl L. Reichenbach
Every day people present to the Emergency Department seeking treatment for a wide variety of ailments and injuries. Some conditions are obvious and easily treated while others are complicated and require a more vigorous approach.
Then there are those emergent life-threatening situations which require “all hands-on deck”, such as cardiac arrest, gun shot wounds, or major injuries from motor vehicle crashes.
So, how does an ED respond to these situations and team come together with efficiency and expertise to save a patient’s life when every second matters? What are the resources required—from staff to equipment and supplies—and
how quickly are those available?
Additionally, a survey of the ED scene looks for potential safety concerns ranging from biohazards to aggressive patients and/or family members. Any one of these can result in a disruption in care and could potentially change the outcome.
It is extensive training, team collaboration and communication with non-clinical partners such as law enforcement that are imperative to a successful resuscitation effort.
