Establishing an SLO culture at a fast-moving scale-up: The Picnic journey by Bob de Vries

As tech scale-ups grow, the pressure to deliver new features often outpaces the ability to maintain operational excellence. At Picnic, Europe’s fastest-growing online supermarket, this tension was acutely felt: engineering teams faced increasing operational toil while being pushed to ship faster.
From early resistance and fragmented observability to cross-team alignment and executive buy-in, this talk outlines the practical journey of integrating SLOs into daily decision-making. We’ll share hard-learned lessons, key metrics that mattered, and cultural shifts that enabled teams to balance innovation with reliability; Without slowing down.

The Hybrid Kubernets Cluster - your head in the clouds, but feet firmly on the ground by Erwin Keijzer

The golden days of the cloud seem to be over, just as many companies seem to be migrating into as out of the cloud. But the cloud still has some unique advantages that are hard to implement on your own. In this talk I’ll go over several of the hybrid models that might help you achieve your goals. A hybrid kubernetes cluster consists of nodes in different (physical / network) locations:
- control plane in the cloud, workers on premise (maybe in multiple physical locations)
- control plane + workers in local DC, with scaling out in the cloud
- local control plane with workers in different clouds

We'll go over how you can achieve this and what benefits these models can offer.
