• What we'll do
Making a technically perfect image is something that can be learned, but making an image that is uniquely yours is something that cannot be explicitly taught or learned. Yet, this is the most important aspect of photography that transcends an image from being just a photograph to the realm of being an art. This talk will focus on the value of creating images that have a communicative intent and tell your own unique story, which is sharply in contrast to capturing something for its visual appeal or purely for aesthetics. The talk will also place emphasis on aspects of visualization and composition while also addressing and challenging popular beliefs in these areas. The overall goal of the talk is to train the mind to venture out of established formulas and pursue the art of photography as a more deliberate and artistic endeavor.

About: Dr. Sangeeta Dey is a California based pediatric neuropsychologist as well as a landscape photographer. In both her clinical and creative practices, she has found that the communication via non-verbal/visual medium is one of the most powerful and honest one. Her work and interviews have been published extensively worldwide in a large variety of media including prestigious photography magazines such as National Geographic, Digital SLR, and various other forms of digital media including Outdoor Photographer, PetaPixel, US Department of Interior and many others. Additionally, her photographs are licensed and used by prominent television channels across the world. Sangeeta’s work was recognized as being amongst top 101 International Landscape Photographers in 2017. More recently, Nikon celebrated their 100th Anniversary milestone. For their centennial celebration, they included Sangeeta in their “#Nikon100” program, which identified 100 photographers as rising photography stars. As per Nikon, it is the list they have curated based on the work of photographers who have been creating inspiring work and telling amazing stories.
