Around Tables Church Bible Study
Details
Tired of sitting in rows passively thru a sermon every Sunday?
Our focus is conversation and discussion in order to build relationships with one another - rather than just sitting passively in pews. We believe the time spent in church on a Sunday is more productive, intellectual, educational, spiritual led, and fulfilling when we use the time to learn through conversation rather than just listening to lectures and sermons.
We believe that our learning is greatly increased when we are actually reading and discussing scripture together like disciples. We believe we can study God's Word ‘and’ grow relationships ‘both’ at the same time - simple right! Yes, people learn much faster, grow relationships, grow friendships, and become closer as the body of Christ - by actually talking with one another.
This knowing one another is the goal Jesus prayed for “… that they may all be one; just as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us” (John 17:21)
As disciples our mission is to grow in God's Word with other believers, and at the same time grow relationships with other believers.
As bible teachers our mission is to share what we know. To encourage, and apply, like we are teaching ourselves as well, because we are all learning from our Lord and Savior - our One True Teacher.
We believe that salvation as well as everything that follows salvation comes from hearing and knowing Gods Word.
Therefore teaching and understanding is the focus and foundation for what we believe.
We believe that studying the Word of God together with one other, affirms and strengthens what we all have in common - that is the bond of faith and trust in God and His Word.
John 8:31 ‘So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly My disciples; and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free”
What we are: A conversational, interactive, mature Church fellowship and bible study:
We emphasize learning thru discussion and sharing of Gods Word with one another, like true disciples - the freedom from passive lecturing!
We emphasize that God's Word, and a relationship with Jesus is primary to our faith, but we were not meant to each live as singular entities in a relationship with Christ - but become one with the Body of Christ.
We emphasize that God lives in us, and with us, in the Body of Christ - we are the body of Christ when we are with one another, that is why there is a scriptural emphasis of being with one another.
We emphasize that getting to know other christians around good and Godly biblical conversation is the best way to develop and grow our faith. And at the same time becoming more at one with the Body of Christ.
Why we meet together as a large group, yet at the same time form smaller groups around tables:
Our format is not unique, we meet in a large group around smaller tables. There are many large bible study groups, professional and school groups that use this format as well.
We are unique in that we meet on Sundays to study, worship, pray and commune ‘together’ not in rows of chairs, or pews, and without need of a long lecture or sermon.
We believe Sunday morning should look like Christians actually meeting and talking with one another, not just taking a seat in a row like an audience.
We meet around tables to encourage discussion and fellowship. We believe people learn more from Gods Word by discussing and conversing than through long lectures.
We expand our understanding of what it means to be a part of the Body of Christ by actually becoming one with, and participating in the Body of Christ.
We emphasize being a disciple is what we were meant to be - a learner, a student of Christ Jesus - all of us learning together from God's Word, with His Spirit.
When we continuously expand our community of relationships with Godly believers, we see how many different ways God works and lives through others.
When we discuss our faith with one another, it helps us understand ourselves better, as well as increasing our understanding of one another.
Learning to live as disciples means learning about ourselves through Gods word, and sharing what we have learned with others who share our faith.
