What we're about

Our group promotes science, reason, and free exchange of ideas. We want to do our part to promote rational thought in public discourse.

Most months, we have an educational meeting and discussion, and members have the opportunity to fellowship with other free thinkers.

Anyone can "join" the Meetup site, and anyone can attend a meeting, but to actually join the Bakersfield Area Skeptics Society requires payment of dues. Only members may vote in meetings.

Not everyone who is a member of this Meetup site is a member of Bakersfield Area Skeptics Society, and not everyone who is a member of Bakersfield Area Skeptics Society is a member of this Meetup site. The Skeptics Society just uses the site as a tool.

As a consequence of the above, please be aware that email exchanges sometimes develop through this site that do not in any way reflect the collective thoughts of the Bakersfield Area Skeptics Society. Many individuals who exchange emails through this site are not members of the Bakersfield Area Skeptic Society. The discourse at meetings of the Bakersfield Area Skeptics Society is usually courteous and civil.
