Information for models

So you're going to model for our group ... What the heck is that like? Well, here are some rules, tips, and other info to help. Please read this in full before attending the session.

  • Please arrive at least 15 minutes early.
  • You'll be asked to provide your phone # to the organizer beforehand so you can be reached if late or for any emergency. You'll be provided with the organizer's phone # and be expected to call if running late or in case of any other unforeseen adventure.
  • We will provide a space heater if you need it. We also have sheets to use for the stand.
  • The group takes frequent breaks to share and review our work. You're welcome (encouraged) to take a look at the work, too.
  • We start with shorter poses (5 min) and work our way up to longer poses. The longest poses are 20 minutes.
  • It's recommended to bring a robe or easy light clothes to wear while on breaks. This will be easier than changing in and out of your street clothes. Likewise a pair of sandals so you don't have to walk around barefoot.
  • Please prepare some poses beforehand. For shorter poses, creative positions are best, that include "action", stretches, and interesting muscle tension. For longer poses, you can choose more relaxed poses, including reclining in a chair. It is easy to find ideas for poses online, either by looking for classic artists' work, or on figure pose sites themselves.
  • This is optional, but feel free to bring any props if you like. We can discuss if we can use them before the session starts. Or just ask beforehand if any ideas come up.
  • The model stand is usually in the center of the room with artists all around it; so please turn for each pose so as to face different people.
  • Sessions often have two models. We'll let you know beforehand if this will be the case, and get your permission, including regarding the gender of the other model.
  • You will receive payment at the end of the session.
  • We take photos of the work and post it online (on this site) after the session. I'll provide a link so that you have access to see all the work.
