Situated close to Denver, Winter Park first opened in 1940, making it one of the oldest ski areas in Colorado. The Mary Jane area was added in 1975. And it really is a "park," owned by the City of Denver. A Winter Park Ski Vacation offers more than 3000 skiable acres (277 of bowl skiing), including Vasquez Cirque, a backcountry experience for advanced skiers and boarders, and Mary Jane, home to some of the most challenging bump runs anywhere. The main mountain, however, is designed for all ski levels, with emphasis on intermediates and beginners. With average snowfall of 370 inches, top elevation of 12,00 feet (9,000 ft at the base), this resort is a favorite among snowboarders as well as skiers. Also, getting around the ski area is easy with 25 lifts, including eight high-speed quads. Non-skiers can enjoy snowshoeing, snowcat and snowmobile tours, and everyone can enjoy magnificent mountain dining at the splendid Lodge at Sunsport, as well as many slope-side Village restaurants.
