What we’re about
ABOUT SCWDC, WHO ARE WE?
Great Sports for All Seasons! In continuous operation since 1936.
We started out as a ski club. And now we’ve morphed into something much larger. Nowadays, in response to our members’ preferences, we sponsor a wide variety of sporting activities and adventure travel at group rates for active adults.
We are active year round with winter sports activities like skiing and snowboarding, tennis, bowling and volleyball. During the summer, it’s sailing, golf, softball and Nationals baseball games attendance. All year round, we sponsor pickleball events and happy hours at local establishments. Finally, from our partnerships with Viking, Overseas Adventure Travel (OAT) and Club Med, we sponsor adventure travel to Europe on Viking cruises, or Overseas Adventure Travel (OAT). Our partnership with Club Med enables us to offer trips to their locations worldwide. Our partnership with Annapolis Naval Sailing Association enables us to provide sailing events on the Chesapeake Bay, as well as sailboat training.
We are a non-profit organization staffed by trained, experienced volunteers. Wanna go skiing in Japan, Austria or Colorado? Wanna go sailing in the British Virgin Islands or the Chesapeake Bay? How about a week’s vacation at Club Med in Punta Cana or a bike and barge trip in Europe? We do these kinds of group trips all the time.
We have high standards for group trip planning. Groups typically have 20 to 50 participants. Each trip has a leader who has been carefully selected and trained to ensure trips come off smoothly and without hassle.
Benefits when taking an SCWDC ski trip or travel vacation

Back to the Slopes Party will be at the Island Time Bar & Grill, Columbia Island Marina, Arlington, VA, just off of the George Washington Memorial Parkway (south bound toward Mount Vernon). Our event space is outdoors, under a covered patio deck. There are also picnic tables on a grassy expanse. We'll provide heavy hors d'oeuvres, buffet style. As usual, there will be raffle prizes.
At about 7:15 PM, we'll do a sailing/beach sunset tradition and play the 1812 Overture just as the Sun hit the deck over the Pentagon, saluting the a good day, and a look forward to a great 2025-2026 ski season.

We will be inviting some of our ski industry friends to exhibit their products and services, just like at a ski resort's Ski Demo Day, to generate a ski season vibe. All the details have not been worked out yet but be prepared to be surprised at this fun members’ event. Check the weekly SkiGram for ski industry friends who will be attending BTTS as we get closer to Sunday, September 14.
++It’s coming! Do a snow dance, but please don't do the rain dance! Think snow! Time to dust off and lay out your winter gear and begin charting your winter adventures for the season ahead!
