Ongoing Mental Health Skill-Building Workshop Series & Social Club for the Community in Philadelphia
WHAT WE’RE ABOUT
Our community is made up of everyday rock stars from diverse backgrounds who have overcome or are successfully managing mental health challenges and living well in spite of them. We're here to lift that wellness up even higher.
Join us! Here, you will find workshops and friendly get-togethers with themes of mental health, positivity, volunteering, and social wellness.
1. WHAT IS SKILL & CHILL?
Our signature ongoing workshop series is called Skill & Chill. We use light-hearted conversation, whiteboards, and structure to teach mental wellness skills in a casual atmosphere. While we don't offer therapy or traditional support groups, we make a great addition to those things as well as anything else you are currently practicing in your mental healthcare routine.
We draw from skill-based methodologies, such as DBT and CBT, as well as Positive Psychology and Resilience Skills.
Topics we cover include effective communication, self-confidence, worry management, and positive mindset development.
Our mission is to help people who are doing well stay well and to help them work on skills that can improve their daily lives.
2. HOW DO I FIND THESE EVENTS?
Click on the events page or bookmark http://www.meetup.com/skillednotill /events to view the upcoming workshops and events. To RSVP, you will need to create a free account on Meetup. Without an RSVP, you cannot attend.
Note: If you already RSVP’d and something else came up, simply update your RSVP status to ‘Not Going’ to allow other people to participate who may be on a waiting list.
3. HOW MUCH DO THE EVENTS COST?
Unless noted otherwise on the event details page, there is no official cost to attend. We put on these public workshops to strengthen our community and because we love doing them.
We ask that you “Pay What You Feel” at the end of each event. Your contributions help cover office expenses so that we can continue to host these events for the community. Skilled Not Ill founder and owner Kat Jost chooses to run these events because she has a strong passion for helping others like you learn the skills that saved her from her own mental health challenges. We accept and appreciate both cash and credit cards.
4. WHO IS THIS FOR / NOT FOR?
Everyone with an open mind and an interest in self-improvement is invited!
Expect a collaborative format with peers from all backgrounds.
Important: Super serious talks about negative topics are not allowed. We have a strict positive-vibes-only rule. We are not a substitute for talk therapy, and we are not therapists.
5. ARE THESE EVENTS RUN BY LICENSED MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONALS?
No, they are facilitated by people who have experienced and overcome serious mental health challenges and who have success stories and techniques to share.
Our events are not like therapy. We don’t talk about histories, traumas, diagnoses, or medications. We cannot offer you psychological or psychiatric help. Also, please do not rely on us for support outside of these events.
If you are in crisis or are feeling unstable, please contact a licensed mental health professional and do not RSVP to our events until you feel safe again. Thank you in advance for putting your health and safety first!
6. WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
Your wonderful self, photo ID, and an open mind. See you there!
