What we’re about

SKOLE GMRH: Game Mechancis Research Hub
Games for lifelong learners who want to have some fun and socialize.

The first time is free! After that there's a $20 admittance ($30 for couples) or monthly subscription that helps us cover the cost of food, venue, game supplies, and a babysitter.

There may be one in-depth game, or there could be several small or fast games going at once. If you think a game is too complicated or simplistic, that's good feedback for us as a group. We want to have fun, but we are also interested in game mechanics themselves and how they do or do not work. Regular members get to vote on what game is next and, once per year, they get to choose a game of their choice.
The games might be as simple as Crazy Eights, Palace, Spades, or Monopoly, but a lot of the time we will be looking at more modern games that have earned a huge following, such as Ticket to Ride, Settlers of Catan, or cult crazes like Magic: The Gathering or Warhammer 40k. Every once in a while we have a treachery theme and play Diplomacy or Secret Hitler.

Looking for intellectual inspiration and uplift? (Ex) Professor McKerracher has a background in philosophy, social theory, and the humanities, with a love for philosophy of science. He and his wife Ann used to teach at Boise State. Now they are homesteading at McKerracher Family Farm and setting up to homeschool their children (one on the way, so far!).

Skole gets its name from the root of "school" in the idea of active leisure time.

NOTE: This group is non-partisan - we don't care if you are left or right, center or independent, religious or atheist, or anything else. What matters is that you are interested in having fun and helping cultivate a learning environment.
