James Webb Space Telescope Launch.

Details

After over 30 years of planning, development, testing, enormous cost overruns and seemingly a hundred delayed launch dates JWST is actually about to zoom off to roughly 1 million miles from Earth and orbit behind the moon in L2. (Hubble orbits about 340 miles above Earth.)

The launch window opens Christmas morning at 7:20 a.m. ET and closes at 7:52 a.m. ET. Live coverage of the launch will stream on NASA's TV channel and website beginning Saturday at 6 a.m.
