Exploring AWS: Serverless Development and Elasticsearch

Details

We're excited to have two AWS cloud practitioners visit our office to deliver a presentation on serverless development with AWS! We're also thrilled to have one of our own Slalom AWS speakers deliver a presentation on Elasticsearch!

Come join us for a night of learning and talking all things AWS!

Topic 1: Using Serverless in Your Team
Speakers: Jay V. and Frank Wang
Description: Serverless is changing the way developers are creating backends. But working with Serverless on AWS proposes some new challenges for your team. In this talk we will look at some of the keys of a serverless deployment workflow. Including topics like; CI/CD, environments, secrets, testing, and project organization patterns.

Bio(s): Frank and Jay are the authors of Serverless-Stack.com; a free resource dedicated to helping people build full-stack production ready serverless applications. And they run a service called Seed (https://seed.run) which helps teams manage serverless deployments on AWS.

They are @fanjiewang & @jayair on Twitter, and you can find out more about them here: http://anoma.ly

Topic 2: AWS ElasticSearch – Zero to search on AWS
Speaker: Ernest Kugel
Description: Hear about running search and analytics clusters on AWS ElasticSearch, including provisioning, automation, security, caveats, use cases, and war stories. What is it doing, what is it good for, how does it stack up to hardware implementations, managing ES on compute instances, or just paying for Elastic Cloud. We’ll chat about monitoring, recovering indices, and blowing data away.

If you like search, cloud, smashing the two; then this is the talk for you!

Bio: A data oriented DevOpserator with a passion for the cloud, Ernest had worked with diverse ElasticSearch implementations in search and analytics before discovering AWS ElasticSearch.
