Part 1: The Lower Loop Warm-Up (~2.8 miles)
0.0 to 0.4 miles: Pass through Crocker Gate and walk the flat, paved Old Guadalupe Trail.
0.4 to 2.0 miles: Turn left onto the dirt Saddle Loop Trail, following it as it curves around the north slopes to the main park lot.
2.0 to 2.8 miles: Hop onto the Bog Trail loop through the wetlands, connecting back onto Old Guadalupe Trail.

Part 2: Climbing to the Summit (~3.7 miles)
2.8 to 3.1 miles: Walk to the main San Bruno Mountain State Park day-use lot and use the pedestrian paths to safely cross over Guadalupe Canyon Parkway.
3.1 to 5.0 miles: Take the Summit Loop Trail counterclockwise. You will steadily climb through Dairy Ravine up toward the top of the ridge.
5.0 to 6.5 miles: Reach the upper mountain slopes near the radio towers, offering clear views of the Pacific Ocean and the city.

Part 3: Tacking on the Ridge Out-and-Back (~2.3 miles)
6.5 to 7.6 miles: Leave the main loop and head east on the Ridge Trail. This segment hugs the spine of the mountain all the way out to the eastern park boundary.
7.6 to 8.8 miles: Retrace your steps back along the exposed ridge to return to the main Summit Loop junction.

Part 4: The Descent and Return (~2.8 miles)
8.8 to 10.5 miles: Complete the remaining southern half of the Summit Loop Trail, winding down the mountain back to the main parking lot.
10.5 to 11.6 miles: Cross back over the parkway to the northern side. Take the flat Old Guadalupe Trail straight back out to Crocker Gate to cross the finish line.
This is a lollipop trip, as in a "stem" portion with a loop at the near end.
