"Architectural Graveyard" Walk at Cal Poly

Details
* See important note about getting there below. Click the map on this page or read directions below.
Let's check out Cal Poly's Architectural Graveyard, an interesting collection of architectural projects installed by Cal Poly students over the decades. https://www.hikespeak.com/trails/cal-poly-canyon-design-village-hike-san-luis-obispo/
Once we reach the design village we will spend some time exploring the area. Some people may want more time to explore, others less. You can head back to your car anytime on your own or stay with the group the whole time.
Important: This is not a flat walk. Please know your abilities and plan accordingly. Bring hiking poles if needed.
Getting There: The Cal Poly campus is confusing. Regardless of where you live in or around SLO, I recommend entering the Cal Poly Campus from the corner of Santa Rosa/Hwy 1 and Highland Dr. That way Google doesn't take you on a wild ride through campus. From the corner of Santa Rosa/Hwy 1 and Highland Dr., here's how to get there:
- Turn east onto Highland Dr. and go 0.7 miles
- Turn right onto University Dr. and go 0.1 miles
- Turn left onto N. Perimeter Rd. and go 0.2 miles
- Turn left onto Village Dr. and immediately turn into the H4-f parking lot on the left. Parking is free, no permit required.
Parking: Park in the H-4f parking lot at the corner of Perimeter Rd. and Village Dr. on the Cal Poly campus. Parking is free on weekends (click on map for exact location)
Duration: 1 - 1.5 hrs (we will start the walk promptly at 5:30)
Distance: 2.5 miles (total)
Elevation Gain: Around 300 feet
Terrain: Hilly oak woodland
Walk Type: Out and back
Dogs: Please leave your fur babies home for this one
Bathrooms: There are porta-potties about halfway into the walk, if needed.
What to Bring:
- Sturdy shoes
- Water
- Light jacket/layers
- Camera
- Hiking poles (optional)
