About us
Welcome to SLO Urban Sketchers! We're a group of keen observers and documenters of our dynamic urban environment. Why take a picture on your phone and then instantly forget about it when you can really see, feel, hear, and really experience a place - making memories that will last a lifetime?
Join us weekly (typically) on Sunday afternoons where we'll pick a location in or near downtown where we can sketch, paint, chat, share tips and tricks, etc in attempt to connect deeper with this place we call home and each other.
No sketching experience needed - only an open mind, a pen and a sketchbook.
Hope to see you at a session soon.

Field Trip - Downtown Cambria & Center for the Arts Exhibition
Cambria, CA, https://maps.app.goo.gl/edonzBDcCV7QQh9T8, Cambria, CA, USLet's get our Saturday sketch on! - Time to get out of SLO and explore our artsy neighbor to the north, Cambria. The downtown (or main street as it's a small town) has a bunch of cool historic buildings, galleries, shops and restaurants to sketch.
Meet in front garden area of Cambria Historical Museum - 2251 Center St, Cambria, CA 93428
Bonus! - One of our members, Holly, has an Urban Sketching piece in an exhibition that's hosting a reception this Sat from 4:30-6:00 pm at the Cambria Center for the Arts (1350 Main Street, Cambria, CA 93428). We've intentionally timed the end our session with the start of the reception. Hope you all can stay a bit longer and see the show and support one of our own.
Travel - Cambria is 34 miles fm SLO, about 40 mins drive...so if anyone would like to carpool or needs a ride, DM me and I'll set up a thread to coordinate.

Fine Print:
As usual, we'll do a quick 'meet n greet' to get to know each other (if you're new or catch or for the regulars) before getting started. We typically get two 45 min sketch sessions in - leaving us time in between and at the end to share as a group what you created and any details related to your unique process.Things to consider before joining session:
- Skill level: All ages and abilities welcome. No sketching experience needed. This is a non-judgemental supportive environment that encourages you to express yourself however you want.
- Supplies: Be sure to bring a sketchbook and something to draw with.
- Sitting: We prioritize places with plenty of open seating but sometimes we sit wherever we can. If you have a folding chair or stool you'd like to bring you're more than welcome to. If you have any mobility considerations please let me know so we can factor that into the route/destination.
- Weather: Weather in SLO/Central Coast can change at the last min. Bring sunscreen, hat, or jacket as you see fit for protection from the elements.
- Photography: Session photos do get posted to the group event page after each session so please let us know if you don't want yourself or your art shared and we'll make sure to respect your request.
- Questions & RSVP: Reach out so I can answer them. If you can't make it, be sure to update your reservation in advance so we have a good idea of final head count for planning purposes.
