What we’re about
Welcome to SLO Urban Sketchers! We're a group of keen observers and documenters of our dynamic urban environment. Why take a picture on your phone and then instantly forget about it when you can really see, feel, hear, and really experience a place - making memories that will last a lifetime?
Join us weekly (typically) on Sunday afternoons where we'll pick a location in or near downtown where we can sketch, paint, chat, share tips and tricks, etc in attempt to connect deeper with this place we call home and each other.
No sketching experience needed - only an open mind, a pen and a sketchbook. If you're brand new to the concept of Urban Sketching, check out the global community website here - https://urbansketchers.org/
Hope to see you at a session soon.

See all- (Last) Sunday [Terrible] Portrait Session @ The Hub on MontereyThe Hub in SLO, San Luis Obispo, CA
Let's get our (people) sketch on! Inspired by the work of Jacob Ryan Reno, let's purposefully draw the worst portraits of each other we can. For this session, we'll take turns drawing each other's portraits (think musical chairs style) and when done, we'll give the portrait to the person we drew. Depending on how many people RSVP, we'll all be walking away with some really great (bad) art. Can't wait!
Note: I'll provide the paper so we're all working with the same size material and you bring whatever supplies you want to sketch with (pen, crayon, marker, etc).
Thanks to our member Maryam for the idea.
Free parking on site.

Fine Print:
As usual, we'll do a quick 'meet n greet' to get to know each other (if you're new or catch or for the regulars) for a few mins. We'll start with a few short warm up exercises to get the ball rolling, then move into our two longer sessions.Typically we can get two to three sketches in per event. Plan for about 25-40 mins per session. This gives us the ability to draw the same space from different angles or pick up and move to another nearby spot to keep things fresh and interesting. After each sketch session, we'll get back together as a group to share and discuss what we created.
Things to consider before joining session:
- Skill level: All ages and abilities welcome. No sketching experience needed. This is a non-judgemental supportive environment that encourages you to express yourself however you want. If you have any mobility considerations please let me know so we can factor that into the route/destination.
- Supplies: Be sure to bring a sketchbook and something to draw with. I'll have some extra pens and watercolor kits if anyone wants to experiment or forgets something.
- Sitting & Weather: We'll be inside for this one so we'll be good.
- Questions & RSVP: Reach out so I can answer them. If you can't make it, be sure to update your reservation in advance so I have a good idea of final head count for planning / seating purposes.
