Altered Ego Portrait Session
Details
Intro
-
Let's treat this like any other portrait session, but we can add a unique twist: turn your subject into an ALTER EGO!
(Some examples will be provided.) -
We can think of an altered ego, like a halloween costume or a weird character: you can turn someone into a doctor, an astronaut, a werewolf, a fairy princess… or it could be someone from another dimension or dream…. we could also think of this portrait as an alternate personality, an abstract way of existing, or a character in an imagined world.
WARM UP
- Ok, so we’ll do this just like our other portrait sessions. Let’s start by getting warmed up. We’re gonna burn through a few pages in our sketchbook first for about 10 min.
PORTRAIT
- Let’s do a 30-40 min drawing. Start with a rough outline of your head, neck, and bust, then think about how you could 'alter' your subject. Here’s some things we can think about doing with our portrait:
- Adding costume pieces to the head, neck, face, ears, and more...
- Abstracting faces with Lines & shapes
- Adding Patterns to areas like Hair, clothing, shadows
- Add things in the background
- Turn the portrait into a cartoon or video game character > push / pull / distort proportions, exaggerate things
- Pretend they existed sometime in the past / future
- Combine them with an animal or mythical creature like a fairy, or elf…
- Afterwards: Let’s do a quick share out after this to see what we come up with!
If you'd like to simply create a beautiful portrait, that's fine too. Just come ready to make marks on a page. Let's just have fun drawing together!
