In the Spring, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, 28 moveable bridges are opened and lowered in sequence along the Chicago River to let the sailboats enter the harbor for the season!

We will meet at 11:00 *am near the Lake Street Bridge, (Wacker and Lake). At the northeast corner of the bridge are stairs down to the Chicago Riverwalk West End (where the giant Adirondack chairs are). From there, we can look down the South Branch to watch some bridges open. As the boats approach we will walk down to the Riverwalk and follow the boats through the eight bridges, from west to east along the Main Branch.

At the Michigan Ave Bridge, we will go into the McCormick Bridgehouse Museum. There is a fee of 8 (6 seniors).

From there we will get a thrilling up-close view of the bridge gears opening and closing the Michigan Ave bridge!

Fun Fact: It only takes 45 seconds for the bridge to go up, 8 minutes for the sailboats to pass through and 45 seconds for the bridge to lower.

Afterwards we can go to the London House Rooftop bar for a fantastic view of the city!
Finally, we can decide a place for lunch.

NOTE: The city determines the actual timing of the bridge lifts, so keep your eye on the event comments in case I need to change our start time, so we don't miss it!
NOTE: I strongly recommend taking public transportation to this event. This will be a one way walk - we will not loop back to Lake Street.
