What we’re about

This group is all about helping startups by giving then the opportunity pitch their business at an alternative pitch contest called The Pitch Show.

Unlike many pitch contests, the Pitch Show takes place in the comedy club, Stand Up NY on the Upper West Side.  Four contestants, chosen by Alan Siege, each have two minutes to pitch their business followed by a 5–6-minute Q and A from the audience.  Along with asking each contestant any question they have about your business; it is the audience who votes on who wins the cash prizes.

But wait, there’s more.

The club sells all kinds of drinks (and some special ones), there is a band that plays before, during and after each contestant, and I challenge the audience with a Trivia Contest – How many entrepreneurs do you know?

Each show has a theme; at the Halloween show on October 30th, I had the audience wear the masks I bought; they got bagged treats, and there was a spooky backdrop on the stage and pumpkins spread around the room. Needless to say, the band played The Monster Mash among other Halloween favorites.

My next show, the theme will be the Winter Solstice with a guest appearance by, well, let’s just say it’s all about the Solstice.

Now, you’re probably wondering who pitches at these events?   Answer: All kinds of businesses.

At the contest in October, a woman who designed gowns for plus-sized women (she won 1st prize), a butcher specializing in producing and selling Halal meats (he won 2nd prize), a man with a new app to help people (who are lonely for very different reasons) meet and make new friends, and another contestant is creating a category - gamified media - where people compete with content.

Since 2019, there have been 54 contestants on the Show, including 20 who appeared virtually during the pandemic.

My next Show will be on Sunday, December 18th, from 6 to 7:30 PM again at the comedy club uptown.
