People Who Run Small Experiences

This is the group for people who run things for other people — small experiences, events, and free meetups. Walks, workshops, kitchens, studios, supper clubs, screenings, whatever it is you do.

What we do at events: we meet online, and in person when enough of us are in the same city. Someone who has been running things for a while takes the room through one thing they have learned — how to plan a two-hour walk, what to do when three people turn up instead of ten, how to price something honestly, and when to charge nothing at all. Then we ask each other questions and swap the things that never make it into a guide. We also run practice sessions where you can try yours on a friendly group and get honest feedback before you take it out into the world.

Who should join: anyone who already hosts small experiences or events, paid or free, and anyone seriously thinking about starting. We are spread across Europe, so most of what we do is online and where you live does not decide whether you can come. You do not need a finished idea, a business, or any experience at all.

Dues and fees: there are no membership dues and no charge to join or attend this group. If an event ever carries a venue or food cost, we say so on the event page before you RSVP.

Affiliation: this group is run by Detor (godetor.com), a small Amsterdam-based business that works with local hosts. Hosts on Detor run paid experiences, ticketed events and free things alike. You do not need to use Detor to be part of this group and nothing here is a sales pitch — plenty of members host independently or on other platforms. We run it because hosting is lonely work and it is better with other people who do it too.
