Westchester Bike Saturday -- 20mi
Details
Introduction:
Due to the cold and rainy weather predicted for Bicycle Sundays opening on the Bronx River Parkway, this ride will be held on Saturday. The greenway along the Bronx River is strikingly beautiful. The pace will be easy -- about 10 MPH, averaging 5 MPH with fun gourmet and photo stops.
We will cut through some of the nicest suburbs and stop in Scarsdale to grab food. You can return by train or bike. We are riding along the train line, so emergencies should be no problem.
Meeting:
We meet at the #1 train's Van Cortlandt Park-242 stop, just inside the park.
Ride:
The ride is mostly flat with an extreme downhill at the Bronxville that is an absolute riot. We have the option of ending the ride in Scarsdale if tired.
End:
We finish at the Kensico Plaza park. There are facilities and a train station nearby.
Weather:
We expect lightly overcast, dry weather in the low 60s. A sweater or long sleeve is recommended. There may be some rain starting up in the late afternoon. Keep this in mind if traveling far to get home.
Safety:
No helmets, masks or boosters are required. The pace is nice and easy. We typically average 5 MPH and stop to take pictures. The ride is mostly on greenways and the locked parkway. Lights and mirrors are highly recommended. Your safety is your responsibility.
