This group has met weekly since 1991. SMART Recovery is a free, science-based, abstinence-oriented, secular mutual-help program for people with alcohol or substance abuse problems or behavioral addictions. Groups average 6-10 people. Meetings are interactive and completely confidential. Hat is passed, contributions entirely optional. Facilitators are trained volunteers-most are graduates of the program. Go to smartrecovery.org for description of the program. There is a huge variety of downloadable documents and forms available. There are 30,000 registrants from all over the world on this site for chat rooms, message boards, forums and 18 weekly meetings. Except for technical maintenance, entire website is regulated by trained volunteers, most of whom are graduates of the SMART Recovery program.
