Women Leaders in Tech Roundtable: Achieving success in the technology industry

You are invited to join The Koa Club for its first Women Leaders in Tech Roundtable: Achieving success in the technology industry. Everyone is welcomed to join us at this event.

Recent studies show that the tech industry has made steady progress to elevate more women to leadership roles. According to an April 2022 Deloitte Insights article, “women in tech leadership are making the fastest advances” in narrowing the gender gap.

There are many advantages to putting women in leadership roles: they bring fresh new ideas, different perspectives and unique approaches to problem solving.

This roundtable will consist of an interactive panel discussion, spotlighting powerhouse women who have achieved success in building their careers in the technology field. They will share stores of their unique journey, hurdles they had to overcome along the way and the courage to keep breaking any glass ceilings to achieve success in their careers. Discussion at this roundtable includes the panelists providing insights and tips on building confidence, being strategic, growing an effective support network, maintaining executive presence, leading change and inspiring their teams.

Women in Tech Leadership Program

This roundtable is held in conjunction with the six-month Women in Tech Leadership Program hosted by The Koa Club’s Follow My Lead division, starting in January 2023.

The Program is based on monthly two-hour workshops, specifically for women in tech to boldly take on, and learn effective strategies to manage, issues that include self-doubt, the dreaded imposter syndrome, fear of not being taken seriously, lack of appropriate role models, and greater stress and anxiety which are challenges commonly faced by women working in male-dominated industries. The participants are also assigned to Mentorship Huddles™, facilitated by a peer mentor, where they can collaborate closely in a small group setting with other participants from the tech industry, to share insights, best practices and helpful encouragement throughout the length of the program.

Panelists
Lisa Cohen, Head of Data Science at Twitter
Lisa leads an organization of talented data scientists, advancing the public conversation on Twitter. She leverages analysis, experimentation, causal inference and machine learning to help users discover and connect with relevant information, and partners closely with product management, engineering, design and research to pursue data-driven product innovation and achieve strategic goals. Prior to assuming the leadership position at Twitter, Lisa held a number of roles at Microsoft, with her last role there as Director of Data Science, where she led a Data Science org within the Microsoft Cloud Data Sciences.

Lisa Hillman, Deputy Chief Information Officer, Snohomish County, State of Washington
Lisa is the Deputy Director for Snohomish County Department of Information Technology. Her current role focuses on the IT business office which excels at project delivery, customer centric support, enhancement of business relationships with 27 county departments and agencies, seeking out innovative solutions to complex challenges. The business office focuses on aligning organizational strategies to accomplishing department strategic goals and the county vision and mission. Prior to her role at Snohomish County Lisa spent 13 years at King County Information Technology Department in a variety of leadership roles. Lisa has an extensive history in technology leadership in both private and public sectors.
