Smerconish Mingle Meetup

### Civil conversation. Diverse perspectives. Curiosity over persuasion.

We meet on the third Thursday every month at 6:30 pm at the Courtyard Marriott, Annapolis on Riva Rd. This group is for people who want to meet others outside their usual circles and have thoughtful, respectful conversations about current events, politics, culture, and related topics.

The goal isn’t to debate or “win” an argument. It’s to hear different perspectives, understand how others think, and have civil conversations in a low-pressure, safe setting. People are welcome to talk or just listen. We will sometimes break into smaller groups depending on how many attend.

The idea is inspired by political commentator, Michael Smerconish (POTUS on SiriusXM and CNN), who often talks about the importance of getting outside our information bubbles and engaging with people who don’t all think the same way.

There aren’t many rules beyond being respectful and civil. I’m also new to the area, so part of this is simply about meeting people and building community. So far the group has been an even mix of men and women, varied ages (20's to 70's) and varied backgrounds.

Some people are familiar with Smerconish, others found us through Meetup, which honestly makes the mix even better.
