Learn how to prep a design and run it on the CNC Router.
After successful demonstration of skills learned and proper safety practices in this workshop you will be certified to use the Shapeoko 3 XL CNC Router*. There is pre-work see below.
A CNC router cuts material (woods/plastics) with a router and end mill bits with 2.5D design. This workshop requires a little more out of you than most of our workshops. You are required to commit to perform prework. You will not be certified to use the router if you didn't do your prework. *
Pre-work:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1WLIQ2EcU-IUsi_x4WSZioAIoFX9PF_WN/view?usp=drivesdk
Bring your prework and laptop with you to the event, if don't have a laptop bring all files associated with you design. Every design file is modified intentionally. Per instructions keep your design 4"x4" or smaller and basic or you'll be carving a host provided circle.
Safety: We recommend long sleeve shirts, you are required to have close-toe shoes, bring your own eye and hearing protection if you don't want to use our shared PPE.
Gotchas: Some people are surprised that we don't provide access to shared router bits. Milling bits are costly, a consumable, and are easily damaged by misuse and mistakes. You will be using the host's bits for this event but will need to buy your own for future use (we provide some recommendations). If you want to buy one for use during this workshop a decent low cost bit can be purchased here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001VY3664/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_U_x_S3ImCb8R9R3H2
This will tackle up to 1/2" HDPE and some other materials.

Cost:
Full Members: $55 (includes cost of material). Contact before paying if your strapped for cash and need a discount

Your prerequisite work will include installation of software on a Windows 7, 8, or 10 or Mac laptop; we are out of lender laptops right now. If you don't have a Windows or Mac laptop you can ask for details on how to use the computer in the makerspace to perform your prework.

*Only members in good standing can use tools at SnoCo Makerspace outside of workshops.

Again, you MUST register and pay here on Zeffy to secure your spot!

We look forward to seeing you - Happy Making!
