How to Stop the Anti-3D Printer Bill

There are currently 2 proposed bills in the Washington State legislature that would harm the maker community in many ways. House Bill 2321 which would require 3D printers to have software that would prevent the use of files that that might be used to create gun parts and ban the sale or transfer of printers that don’t have the blocking software. House Bill 2320 which would ban the manufacture and ownership of files that could lead to the creation of gun parts. There is also a similar bill in New York State

We’d like to invite makers from the Puget Sound to join us for a teach-in so we can stop these bills from harming our communities.

We will cover:

  • How bills are created and passed and the best way to track them
  • Where the bills currently are (both HB 2321 and HB 2320 which are very different bills)
  • How to create a compelling story to increase the impact of your outreach to legislators
  • How to write a postcard or letter to your legislators
  • How to call/leave a message for your legislators with your compelling message
  • How to testify before a committee hearing or get a face to face with your legislators
