What we’re about
Snohomish Freethinkers is a chapter of HNPS, providing a place for like-minded free thinking individuals open to new ideas, ways of being and scientific discoveries, but not so open that our brains fall out! We enjoy free flowing discussion on Politics, Religion, Science, Ethics, and any other controversial subject that comes to mind.
We also encourage attendees to share their life story that lead their journey to the 'Land of Freethought', Free Inquiry, Skepticism towards cultural stories, norms & traditions and to the admiration of the scientific method as the only reliable means of finding answers and facts to reality; tools to help answer our probing questions and search for common sense solutions to humanity's current problems.
If you wish to challenge this underlying assumption, please feel free to join us and explain, as first and foremost, we ARE freethinkers, OPEN TO RETHINK OUR STANCE. But we do expect a rational explanation backed up by EVIDENCE! (humm - catch 22?)
HNPS is a non-profit 501(c)(3) educational organization committed to positive social change through advocacy and education. We focus on issues relating to the separation of church and state, the importance of a secular democracy, human rights, environmental sustainability and peaceful solutions to global problems. We serve the Puget Sound north of Everett, WA up to the Canadian border.
Upcoming events (1)
See all- Snohomish FreethinkersBob's Burgers & Brew - Everett, Everett, WA
We meet at Everett Bob's Burger & Brew:
https://www.bobsburgersandbreweverett.com/
If we get enough people, we will meet in the back room again, which is much quieter.
I’ll be showing the Snohomish Freethinkers sign.
Formally the meetup is 6PM-8, but Matt tends to be there by 5:30 PM to set things up and welcome early arrivals, and restaurant doesn't close until 9 PM, so those who wish to linger for a bit may do so.
CAR POOLS:
For those willing to meet near the I-5 corridor from Bellingham WA, through Skagit County and upper Snohomish County, if interested in a ride, text Monty at 360-510-2501 or email secularworld@aol.com for details, and arrangements. If you’d like a ride from south of Everett, text Matt at 206-390-2209 a few days before and he'll pick you up.
DISCUSSION:
To ensure everybody gets a chance to speak, we’ll use Monty’s moderation style: When it seems like everyone has arrived and we’ve ordered food, we go around and introduce ourselves and suggest topics if we wish. When we’re all introduced, we either decide on a topic organically or vote for one. We can and do easily change topics if a change is desired.Matt will use his phone as a timer with colored cues, so everybody gets up to two minutes. Matt or Monty will maintain a queue of people who would like to contribute. This way, everybody gets a chance to weigh in, if they wish.
Suggested topic: Mr. Trump, the bad and the good.
See you Thursday evening June 5th!
