A DAY AT THE RACES AT DEL MAR

…And away they go!

Calling all fun-loving Explorers looking for a full day of excitement. If you like horse racing and betting on the ponies join the intrepid So Cal Explorers for an exhilarating day watching the races “where the turf meets the surf” at the iconic Del Mar Racetrack. First timers are welcome - we're happy to teach you the little bit we know about betting on horses but this event is all about participating and joining in on the fun.

Tickets are $14 each and we have pre-purchased a block of reserved-seating tickets. (Prices increased $2 from previous years)

TRAVELING BY TRAIN: Since getting there is half the fun, avoid the hassle of the 5 freeway and join us on the train for a true adventure. AMTRAK stops at the nearby Solana Beach station and Del Mar provides complimentary shuttle service to and from the track. We’ll disembark at the Solana Beach station and take the free double-decker buses to the track. Round trip train fare will depend on your departure station (Example: $47 for Coach from Santa Ana and $68 for Business Class from Santa Ana).

We’ll take the Pacific Surfliner #770 arriving at Solana Beach at 12:22p.m.
We’ll depart Solana Beach on the Pacific Surfliner #591 departing at 7:40

Train tickets can be purchased HERE

Type in your nearest station, choose arrival in Solana Beach, click on ‘find trains’ and look for #770. This will provide you with your departure time. For the return, select #591 from Solana Beach to your destination.

I'll depart from the Santa Ana train station. I am going to choose Business Class tickets this year so we are guaranteed a seat. If you would like to sit with me, buy your train tickets soon because they sell out.

We'll text each other and update the Meetup page on the day with the car number so we can sit together. Trips to the Lounge Car for mimosas or beer are optional 😉

TRAVELING BY CAR: Parking at Del Mar is $10 per car for self-park and $30 for valet, payable by cash or credit card.

Since the racetrack is near the ocean, we recommend bringing a sweater or jacket as we are sitting in a covered, shaded section and the weather cools down in the evening.
