The US Coast Guard Ship the Narwahl is coming to the Ocean Institute at Dana Point Harbor for free tours.

• Meet the officer and crew of the Narwhal
• Visit the USCG Auxiliary Booth for demonstrations and boating safety information
• Visit the Ocean Institute to learn about it's many programs
• BYO Picnic at a nearby park with gorgeous views (exact location TBD day of event)

The USCG Cutter Narwhal is an 87-foot Marine Protector Class coastal patrol cutter homeported in Corona del Mar, California, serving in multi-mission roles including law enforcement, search and rescue, and maritime security.
Vessel Overview
The USCGC Narwhal (WPB-87335) is an 87-foot Marine Protector Class coastal patrol cutter built by Bollinger Shipyards in Louisiana and has been in active service for over 24 years. It is highly maneuverable, capable of speeds up to 25 knots, and designed for coastal patrol, port security, and law enforcement missions. The cutter has a liveaboard crew of 12, allowing extended operations at sea.
Narwhal conducts a wide range of missions, including:

• Search and rescue operations along the Southern California coast

• Immigration law enforcement, such as interdicting migrants at sea; for example, the Narwhal interdicted 21 migrants off Newport Beach in 2024

• Fisheries enforcement and environmental protection, including oil spill response

• Maritime security and border protection, patrolling from the Mexican border to the Channel Islands under the U.S. Department of Homeland Security .

• The cutter also participates in inter-service training exercises and community engagement activities.
