Aquarium Of The Pacific "First Wednesdays" Lecture Series
Forever Chemicals
Presented by Sharon Udasin
advanced ticket purchase required, see below...

PFAS, or per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, are man-made “forever-chemicals” that make our lives easier. They are found in everyday products such as non-stick cookware, waterproof clothes, stain-resistant carpets, microwave popcorn bags, nail polish and dental floss. They are also used in firefighting foams, semiconductors, industrial machinery and aerospace equipment. PFAS are so frequently used because they resist heat, water, oil and grease. But they also do not break down in the environment. Decades after use, they linger in the air we breathe, the soil we grow food in, and our drinking water. 97% of the population have PFAS in their blood, and high-level exposures can cause serious health risks.
Join us for a conversation with environmental journalist Sharon Udasin who will discuss her book “Poisoning the Well: How Forever Chemicals Contaminated America.” She will share the history of the growth of PFAS and the impacts of their production through accounts from four towns near production sites. She will equip you with valuable insights to lead healthier lives and as well as empower you to effect change in your community.
After the presentation, guest are invited to enjoy music, crafts, cocktails and conversations in our art gallery. We have a few signed copies of the book to give away to lucky winners in the audience! Beverages will be available for purchase at the event. The program will also be live-streamed and recorded for those unable to join in person.
