Nostalgic Penang Culinary Gems
Details
Penang George Town is a renowned street food paradise offering incredible quality and variety at reasonable prices. Time Out named Penang the #1 Best Street Food City in Asia for 2025, highlighting its vibrant hawker culture and diverse culinary heritage.
For the January 10th Meetup lunch, we’re pleased to cook two authentic Penang culinary gems – the wok-hei infused Char Kuey Teow, the robust rich, deeply flavored broth of Hokkien Mee soup and a popular street food crispy pancake.
- Char Koay Teow
Penang-style Char Kuey Teow has that distinctive smoky taste of flat rice noodles stir-fried with shrimp, bloody cockles, Chinese lap cheong (sausage), eggs, bean sprouts, and chives in a mix of soy sauce.
- Hokkien Mee
Penang-style Hokkien Mee (Prawn Noodles) are egg noodles with bee hoon served in richly flavored prawn soup stock with slices of prawns, pork ribs, fish cake, bean sprouts, and water spinach, topped with fried shallots. The key to this divine noodle dish lies in the robust and flavourful prawn broth, rich and full of umami goodness, that will make the perfect base for infusing the noodles.
- Crispy Apam Balek
Our crispy version of the Pasar Malam style Min Chiang Kueh / Ban Jian Kueh with generous Peanut filling.
The price per pax is ฿350.
