Chinese New Year is just around the corner and to get into the mood we’ll be preparing three festive Chinese dishes this coming February 14th pre-CNY cum Valentine Meetup lunch.

  • Braised ‘Tarobalone’ with Mushrooms

The humble taro is transformed into toothsome, bouncy pillows – think abacus beads or Suan Pan Zhi, but shaped to resemble baby abalone / ingots – cooked with assorted fresh mushrooms and vegetables into a hearty main dish. It’s beginning to feel like Chinese New Year time again!!!

  • Fujian Popiah

Fujian-style popiah includes sliced lettuce, cooked turnips with carrot, sambal chili, sweet sauce, minced garlic, fried shallots, sliced cucumbers, roasted ground peanuts, sliced egg omelet, garlic chips, blanched bean sprouts, prawns, and Chinese sausage wrapped in a handmade popiah skin.

  • Rojak

Chinese style Rojak Buah Petis comprises mixed vegetables and fruits like fresh cucumber, crunchy jicama, pineapple, green apple, tau pok, bean sprouts, kang kong, and a dash of bunga kantan mixed in gooey, pungent Hae Ko (fermented shrimp paste) mix and drizzled with toasted peanuts.

What is interesting about Meetup lunch is that this is a DIY activity. You will be making your own lunch. All the necessary wrapper skins, fillings, sauces, and garnishes as well the salad ingredients and sauce will be provided. Time to get your hands dirty and assemble your perfect roll and mix and toss your own salad like what we do in Singapore/Malaysia. It will be fun. .

**Special Valentine’s Day Treat – Complimentary Lao Bo Bing (Wife Cake), a traditional flaky pastry with a sweet, chewy filling (winter melon, almond, sesame), symbolizing lasting partnership is the Chinese’s Valentine equivalent for all diners.

The price per serving is ฿350.
