The Animation Story Development Process at Disney and Dreamworks--SoCal Indies

Details

Dear Fellow Authors,

Join us for a presentation of the story development process for animation at Walt Disney Television Animation and Dreamworks Animation Television.

Bruce Cranston is a retired Senior V.P of Development at the two studios successively in the 1990s. He’ll walk us step-by-step through the process of creating animated television series and animated feature films, from the birth of an idea to the finished story for television and theaters.

In his years with the two studios, Cranston supervised the full-length animated theatrical film A Goofy Movie as well as such animated television shows as DuckTales, Goof Troop and over 50 episodes of Winnie the Pooh.

Among the topics Cranston will explore:

· How do stories differ between television and feature film animation?
· What is the story template for an animated TV series?
· The importance of shelf life in animated story telling.
· How is a long-form animated movie structured?

If you ever thought about writing for animation, bring your notebook and your questions and learn how it’s done at two major studios.

All welcome. An online presentation of the SoCal Indie Writers Group. Online workshops held 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month at 6 pm Pacific time.
