Solstice Night Hike: Redwoods of Carbon Canyon Regional Park (6/20)
Details
If the attendance list is full, please join the wait-list. I'm almost always able to accommodate everyone as the weekend approaches.
Overview: Carbon Canyon Regional Park is home to a grove of coastal redwoods (Sequoia sempervirens) established in the 70s. We'll hike the nature trail to the redwoods, passing through good birding habitat and native plant communities. Shade is limited so we're starting early.
Here are a few of the topics we'll be learning about:
- Natural history of Carbon Canyon
- Engineering of Carbon Canyon Dam
- History of the redwood grove and why they are able to live so far south of their range
- Other local experimental groves of coastal redwoods and giant sequoias
- Our resident birds, mammals, and reptile
- Native plants
I've capped attendance for this event, so please join the waitlist and I'll try to accommodate as the event gets closer.
