What we’re about
We're a group of LA activists (PDLA) spreading the idea of Civic Assemblies and sortition!
We're working with both Culver City and LA City to run Civic Assemblies in 2026. We believe this is a tool and a path to bring democracy to the people.
Through the use of sortition (the random selection of members of a legislative body), you're nearly mathematically certain that you will pick old, young, rich, poor, ugly, beautiful, red, white, black, blue, green, purple people! When that group is provided time and resources, they can engage in effective deliberation.
These two components create a Civic Assembly that is fundamentally respresentative of the people, not a ruling class of elites.
This meetup.com group is affiliated with Public Democracy LA (PDLA). We work closely with Democracy Without Elections. If you're sick of the division, sick of picking the lesser of two evils, if you believe in people, then come to a meetup.
