Topic Details

This is a BLUE TEAM cybersecurity game.

Students will step into the role of a cybersecurity analyst with KC7, an innovative and engaging approach to learning cybersecurity that combines hands-on involvement with a fun learning experience. Built by threat intelligence experts with extensive experience in studying advanced cyber adversaries, KC7 provides a realistic learning environment mirroring real-world challenges. This practice-based learning platform transforms the acquisition of key cybersecurity skills into an enjoyable and fulfilling journey for students. Recognizing the challenges faced by professionals in non-cyber roles seeking entry into the field, KC7 serves as a valuable platform to cultivate essential cyber skills crucial for securing a job in cybersecurity. Additionally, KC7's realistic dataset offers working cybersecurity professionals an opportunity to enhance their skills in threat intelligence and advanced analysis.

Objectives – What You Will Leave Knowing
1. Students will gain experience working as a Security Analyst in a realistic environment. The attacks are modelled after real threat actor TTPs.
2. Students will investigate a full end to end intrusion observing all phases of the Cyber Kill Chain.
3. Student will learn how to pivot between datasets with each piece of evidence they collect.
4. Students will get experience working in Azure Data Explorer (ADX) and Kusto Query Language (KQL), tools used by security analysts at companies like Microsoft.
5. Students will begin to develop the same analytical skills used by industry professionals such as Incident Responders, Security Operation Analysts, and Threat Intelligence Analysts.

Instructor: Jibby Saetang
Bio:
After spending a decade in watch and jewelry repair and possessing no prior IT experience, I decided to pivot towards a career in cybersecurity. Rather than opting for the conventional certification route and starting from scratch, I chose to capitalize on my existing skills and gradually build technical knowledge around them. Employing my critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, I quickly attained the top-ranking position on KC7Cyber, secured a spot in the top 1% on TryHackMe, and achieved similar success on the Antisyphon Training Cyber Range. My journey into cybersecurity illustrates that entering this field doesn't need to be costly or overwhelming; it can be both affordable and enjoyable.
