Oversharing in SharePoint Online & Copilot for Microsoft 365 Adoption

Details
In December's meeting, Sunny Joat, a Modern Workplace Senior Cloud Solutions Architect at Microsoft, will join us to explore concerns about oversharing in SharePoint and OneDrive that may block your efforts to adopt Copilot for Microsoft 365.
Session Abstract: Are concerns about oversharing in SharePoint and OneDrive blocking your efforts to adopt Copilot for M365?
Copilot for M365 only asks if the user can access data, not whether the user should access this data, to create output on behalf of the user. As a result, many organizations need to quickly and effectively identify, remediate, and put future governance guardrails in place to minimize oversharing of data, especially sensitive data.
In this session, you will learn the deeper technical details of how permissions and link-based sharing work in SharePoint and how M365 Group connected sites derive permissions from their connected groups. Once we've covered the fundamentals, we'll take a tiers-of-risk approach to the problem of oversharing so that we can focus on closing down the highest-risk sites first.
The session covers M365 Out of the Box and add-on capabilities, such as SharePoint Advanced Management (SAM) and Microsoft Graph Data Connect, as well as doing things the (lower cost but more labor intensive) manual Powershell way, to identify risks and engage with site/group owners. It also covers governance guardrails such as Purview Sensitivity Labels for Groups, Teams, and Sites, the use of dynamic groups, the new Restricted SharePoint Search (temporary) feature, the Restricted Content Discovery feature (in SAM preview), Private Teams Discoverability, and other capabilities that help tackle the root causes of oversharing.
This session includes access to custom PowerShell scripts for exporting M365 Groups, SPO Sites, and item ACLs, as well as bonus content with even more details.
