Hi guys,
I am a professional confidence coach for people with social anxiety and this free event is for anyone who wants to build more confidence, make new connections and enjoy themselves.
Over the years running events several people have mentioned public speaking as one of their biggest social fears and I know it's one of the best ways to build confidence with people. Since we have a bank holiday Monday around the corner and beautiful weather I think it's the perfect opportunity to pick a nice chilled green spot in Cannon Hill park and practice public speaking in a group :)
Depending on the group size I will organise the event so that everyone gets the chance to practice public speaking if they feel up to it.
Since it's a big park we can meet in the outdoor seated area of the Midlands Arts Centre, which is on the opposite side of the long carpark, at 2pm and we can set off from there at around 2:15pm to find a suitable place in the park!
I appreciate there are different levels of social anxiety so I will do my best to create a non-judgmental space where everyone feels welcome, included in the conversation and has the opportunity to speak. This is important as the only way I know to build true confidence is through real experience of opening up and expressing yourself honestly to prove to yourself that you are safe to express yourself.
This Meetup is also an opportunity to ask any questions to myself and the rest of the group regarding a sticking point you might face in social situations and, thus, learn about social dynamics and responding to cues.
As socialising is both an emotional skill set (feeling confident, relaxed, connected to others etc.) and a logical skill set (understanding social dynamics, responding well to cues etc.) genuinely mastering social anxiety requires progress in both skill sets and to do this you need the opportunity to practice and learn.
Therefore, I encourage you to give yourself the freedom to make mistakes, enjoy the process and I believe with a few simple lifestyle tweaks and attending half a dozen or so of these Meetups you will be significantly more confident.
If this event sounds like one you would benefit from I very much look forward to meeting you!
Phil
