We will be inside the pub and i'll wear a visible red wrist band so you know it's our group. Always buy a drink on arrival. Depending on the weather we maybe inside or out.
I will be organizing this meetup at the same time as another great meetup organized by someone else only about socializing with people from all around london who'd like to know this amazing neighbourhood better and maybe one day find a flat to buy, rent or share locally... I'll happily direct you to their group.
This meetup is not just about Drawing but also photography with the aim of using those photos for Drawings/Paintings. I can advise on Photography and drawing Portraits.
This event is £4 but Free to full Life Drawing, Life Portrait & Life photography members at https://www.thelifedrawingnetwork.com that youcan find on our prices page. So I can buy myself and any model guests , a few drinks (non-alcoholic for me).
Those who share their drawing on Insta and FB, won't pay next time and will be listed on a shared google doc. They'll still need to buy their own drinks on the day.
The same £4 was the cost I discounted Life Drawing classes in 2004, around London, down from £12, to purposely create a phenomena so today we can still enjoy paper classes rather than Ipads/tablets only.
Important: Please read our new group description and let me know what tickles your mind in term of Portraiture events in a message, by adding answers to your profile or by email at eukart@msn.com. This will make a huge difference in what we choose to organize.
Don't forget your sketch pad, equipment, camera, smile and debit card. This is the best and safest pub in the neighbourhood as the population has now completely changed from what it was 20+ years ago. It's now time to come and enjoy! We'll also organize Saturday events on Markets days.
Optional Color matching:
We have coloured silicone wrist bands that we sell with our stamp/logo that matches your chosen role. Each band is only £5 (cash) that I'll bring with me and that you can bring back withyou at all our Portraits events forever. Make sure you don't loose it as you'll need to buy a new one and it's fine to wear 2 or 3 of them at the same time. If silicone doesn't suit you and prefer a soft material let me know.
Colours are Red for the People hosting and co-hosting, Green for Photographers experienced in Portraiture and who will carry their portfolio on their mobile phone, Skin pink for Portrait drawers and sketchers up to Street Portrait Montmartre style, Purple for Portrait Painters, Grey for Sculptors, Yellow for Art Portrait models, White for Photo models. Feel free to suggest any new category.
A few tips on how this event is run:
For the drawing part, you will need to change seat and subject to portray every 20 mins, those posing won't need to move and same for those chatting, having a break. The same applies to photography. I will need your mobile number to add you to our whatsapp group so we can text everyone every 20 mins. Generous people who make sure their drawing or photo model's glass is kept full, are always well appreciated.
I'll explain how fill in flash works for those with cameras they'd want to use at a late time of the day.
After 2 hours most of the participants will go back to the tube station or bus stop together.
My tips of the day:
Here are the different levels, from 1 to 9, in drawing portraits that you need to climb up to become better at it, which is only possible with regular or intense practice (lots within a week or a month):
- Beginners ability to go from a 2D flat image to something 3D, drawn at any angle
- ability to draw eyes
- drawing noses and ears
- drawing hairs
- creating a Resemblance
- using/selecting shading/lighting
- volume of a head
- style/energy
- speed increase.
Those interested in more surrealistic approach should try to master all those aspects first, and only then freely experiment...
This event will also happen at weekends in the summer with other interesting options you'll be delighted to hear about...
Full Life Portrait, Life Photo Portrait and LD (Life Drawing) members can also bring their guests who don't pay if they arrive reasonably together and let us know their contact on arrival.
You can pay £5 cash in Person to the main host of the night if you didn't buy a ticket on our Life Drawing platform or here on Meetup.
As i'll be occasionally in Brighton organizing the same kind of events on the beach, I'll need more fabulous people to help me run this event as regularly as possible in London or in Brighton. Let me know if interested and thank you.
Tony:)
