OVERVIEW
If you're not already familiar, Ocho de Bastos (translation: Eight of Clubs) is an amazing local band with a huge meetup following. (At least 7 groups are currently posting this event!) Boasting a unique, toe-twitching fusion of tropical rhythms and crowd-pleasing pop rock, the band features a Carlos Santana-style guitar sound blended with powerful Latin percussion and catchy brass riffs. The energetic and engaging lead singer is equally at home belting out "Despacito" as he is "Sweet Caroline," guiding giddy audiences through Latin-inspired dance moves in the process. No rules and no worries! Numerous meetup groups are promoting this event. Feel free to RSVP here even if you're already signed up with another group. That way you'll be privy to useful comments and fun photos you might not see elsewhere.
Event/Logistics:
Friday's outdoor concert takes place on the main stage in the heart of Rockville Town Square (26 Maryland Av, Rockville, MD). The venue is a large village green space surrounded by numerous restaurants (both full service and quick service). Food and beer/wine are also available for purchase at pop-up tents along the green. Here's what you need to know:
- Your host (Carl, aka PapaDuck) will float a large yellow duckling balloon to help you find our group. (If you arrive after 6 pm, the balloon will be lowered somewhat to avoid annoying the folks behind us, LOL.)
- I will do my best to save space for us on the green. But if you arrive late, there are no guarantees.
- Bring a chair or blanket for seating. Seriously!
- Parking is available in nearby garages. The first 90 minutes are free. After that, up to 3 hours = $3. Up to 4 hours = $4. For more info on parking, click HERE.
- Pack a beverage and picnic dinner, or purchase something from one of the many local establishments.
- Gotta pee? You'll find restrooms in the library (open until 6 pm) and local restaurants.
